B.o.B aka Bobby Ray Simmons storms to the top of the Official Singles Chart with his UK chart debut Nothin’ On You featuring co-writer and singer Bruno Mars, the Official Charts Company announces today.
B.o.B has emerged from America’s Southern hip-hop scene where he has long been at the centre of the underground thanks to his mixtapes.
In 2008 B.o.B scored a breakthrough hit in the US with the smash single/video Haterz Everywhere which was an MTV “Jam of the Week”.
Two years later Nothin’ On You has catapulted him into the national consciousness in the States and looks sure to do the same in the UK.
A rapper, who also plays multiple musical instruments including piano, trumpet and French Horn B.o.B says:
“I just want to show people that there are endless possibilities of what you can do. You don’t just have to be a rapper; you can be anything you want to be and whatever you do, just love it and it will show.”
B.o.B will release his debut album B.o.B Presents: The Adventure of Bobby Ray at the end of this month. The Adventures Of Bobby Ray went straight to number one in the US.
His first ever UK date takes place at London’s Kings College on Thursday May 27th.
There is just one other new entry in this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 10: Leeds United and Supporters’ Leeds Leeds Leeds (Marching On Together) is straight in at number ten. The original was a B-side on the football team’s 1972 Top 10 hits Leeds United. It was subsequently a minor hit in its own right in 1992 (peaking at number fifty four) and returns to the chart again as Leeds United fans celebrate their team’s return to the Championship.
In the Official Albums Chart, The Rolling Stones’ re-released Exile On Main Street is straight back at number one having first topped the charts in 1972.
There are four other new entries in this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 10: dance icons Faithless’s The Dance (straight in at number two), German covers band Baseballs’ Strike (number four), Americans LCD Soundsytem’s This Is Happening (number seven) and Alicia Keys’ The Element Of Freedom is a re-entry at number eight (up from last week’s twenty-one) having spent two weeks at number one in February this year.
