Brit darlings Keane land their fourth consecutive number one album as new release Night Train goes straight to the top of the Official Albums Chart, the Official Charts Company announces today.
The eight-track Night Train EP follows earlier number one albums Hope and Fears (2004), Under The Iron Sea (2006) and Perfect Symmetry (2008). Keane’s worldwide album sales now exceed 10 million. The band have also notched up numerous hit singles including three Top 10s; Is It Any Wonder? (number three in 2003), Somewhere Only We Know (number three, 2004, Everybody’s Changing (number four, 2004).
Night Train takes it names from Keane’s preferred mode of transport during their worldwide Perfect Symmetry tour which saw the band playing to sold-out arenas in 28 countries.
Keane recently announced plans for a summer tour of forests in 2010, including a homecoming show at the Bedgebury Pinetum, just outside their hometown of Battle, East Sussex.
Keane are: Tom Chaplin (vocals etc), Richard Hughes (drums etc) and Tim Rice-Oxley (piano etc).
There are three other new entries in the Official Albums Chart Top 10, most notably Lady Gaga’s The Remix, straight in at number three. This gives the New Yorker no less than two albums in this week’s Top 5 with the evergreen The Fame at number four this week.
The Remix features 17 rare and unreleased versions of her songs as reworked by artists including Pet Shop Boys, Alphabeat, Fankmuzik, and Chew Fu featuring Marilyn Manson.
Elsewhere, the Brooklyn, New York based Nationals score their highest ever UK chart placing with fifth studio album High Violet straight in at number five and Oxford natives Foals are straight in at number eight with Total Live Forever, giving them their second Top 10 hit after debut album Antidotes peaked at number three in 2008.
In the Official Singles Chart Roll Deep remain on a roll with Good Times staying at number one for a third consecutive week. The only other track to have spent as long at number one this year was Owl Cities’ Fireflies. No track has had a longer run at number one since Lily Allen’s The Fear reigned at number one four consecutive weeks in January 2009.
There are no less than five new entries in the Official Singles Chart Top 10 this week: Jason Derulo’s Ridin’ Solo has climbed to number two (up from last week’s number twelve), Romanian producer Edward Maya’s dance track Stereo Love featuring the Russian born Vika Jigulina is new at number four, Fyfe Dangerfield’s She’s Always A Woman, as seen on the John Lewis TV ad, is at number seven (up from last week’s number fourteen), Alexandra Burke’s All Night Long featuring US rapper Pitbull is at number eight (up from last week’s number sixteen) and The Glee Cast’s version of Total Eclipse Of The Heart, Bonnie Tyler’s number one hit from 1983, is new at number nine.
