The Official Charts Company has launched a brand new consumer-facing web portal, providing music fans across the globe with access to five decades of British chart data.
The new online home for the Official Charts – which can be found at www.theofficialcharts.com – offers an update of the Official Singles and Albums Charts every Sunday evening, as well as a wide range of Officially-compiled charts across a large number of genres, all supported with download and video streaming functionality.
The site offers users the opportunity to download tracks and albums from the Official Singles and Albums Charts (supported by 7Digital and TuneTribe), as well as streaming videos (through a partnership with Muzu.tv). As part of a partnership with the British Music Experience, all visitors to theofficialcharts.com are entitled to “2 for 1” tickets at the BME.
As well as current charts, users can access an archive of Official Singles and Albums Charts, dating back to 1960, and listings of all the number ones dating back to that point. New functionality also allows users to call up the full chart histories of their favourite artists, either from a list of 30 featured artists or from an A-Z listing of every act to have charted in the history of the Official Charts.
For business users, the site also offers an archive of Official Charts press releases, as well as essential information on the Official Charts Company, the many charts it creates, as well as guidelines on how to ensure music releases are eligible for the charts and how to register as a new chart-reporting retailer.
Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot says, “As the home of the UK’s Official Charts, it was important that our new site was as advanced as the charts now are – it is designed to be the ultimate destination site for anyone looking to find out what is happening in music right now, as well giving the option to delve into five decades of British music history.
“Even before the launch of our new, music and chart fans descended on our old website in their millions every year. But now we have added so much new functionality, we expect to see even more of them turning up – and staying for longer.”
The new site has been redesigned by Sevenoaks-based web development agency Wicked Web, who are also working on an additional chart quiz service which should be available for users in the coming months.
