Madonna is on track to score her 12th UK Number 1 studio album this week with Rebel Heart.

Following yesterday’s early sales flash, the pop superstar continues to lead the tally on the Official Chart Update, 12,700 combined chart sales ahead of her nearest competitor, Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour.

Meanwhile, Last week’s Number 1 Chasing Yesterday by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ slips to Number 3, Ed Sheeran’s X is at 4, and George Ezra’s Wanted On Voyage completes the Top 5.

New entries

Straight in at Number 6 is a new entry from Rebecca Ferguson. The Billie Holiday covers record, Lady Sings The Blues, could become her third Top 10 album this Sunday.

Man-band Blue are currently battling for a place in the Top 10 this Sunday with their fifth studio album Colours (Number 10), and Irish rockers The Answer could score the highest-charting album of their career this week with their fifth LP Raise A Little Hell, currently at 21.

US singer-songwriter and producer Matthew E White lands at Number 24 with Fresh Blood, synth-pop singer Marc Almond is new at 31 with The Velvet Trail, and Canadian punk band Cancer Bats start at 35 with their fifth album Searching For Zero.

I'm a little confused by the lowly numbers. How can Sam Smith, whose album has been out forever, be only 12.000 copies behind M when most fans are buying the album at least 3 times for the three different physical versions, as well as via iTunes or Google Play.... very odd... are physicals added later?

Sam smith and taylorswift and ed sheeran are having their imperial phase..that's why

it says something about the album's appeal when even multiple configurations don't yield above average sales. She should have released ghosttown first.

That album is almost perfect - better in deluxe edit.
Here's video to one of unreleased tracks from 'Rebel Heart' session - Queen.

A so-so album, nothing beats 80's Madge IMHO. I did hate the Mike Tyson track most. So there! ;-)

The track icon is the best track on the album with Illuminati the second best.

The album is brilliant. I need to buy it again though, the super deluxe tracks are meant to be amazing so I'm going to buy that version

I've ordered it. I pre-ordered the deluxe version of Rebel Heart in December before she revealed there would be a super deluxe

People are just buying it for the name. Music album sales barely mean a thing these days as well. The song sophie worked on is awful.

Apparently a lot of people do.... So since you don't give a about Madonna, why are you here??? I find this to be quite odd.... Why do these Madonna haters always find the need to come onto posts about her and then bash.... Hmm???

Agree totally with DJJJR. If you are not interested in the artist, like most of us here, just off and spend your time elsewhere. This is not a forum for negativity.

Even if what you say is true and people do buy it based on the Madonna brand name... well that just shows her continued relevance and that people do 'give a ' about what Madonna is doing.

we know that she was #1 with evita, they cant change it..i think they mentioned only her studio albums...just enjoy her success :/

They say "12th studio album". Evita was a soundtrack not a studio album. The Bodyguard isn't counted for Whitney either. Maybe Alan Jones will clarify in next week's Music Week Report (though he's prone to more mistakes and omissions). OCC updates don't go into more detail.

Whatever she does it won't be the Cher last tour, final last tour and last final last tour silliness. BTW, I like Cher.

They'll have to take The Immaculate Collection and Celebration out of the equation too, because they're not studio albums either. In fact they'll have to do the same to any artist who has had greatest hits collections reach number one. My point is, if they can count greatest hits collections then why can't they include soundtracks?

avatar

Tony Bianchi

Fair point. Evita wasn't just her. It was Madonna / Various. They worded it badly and should have clarified.
