Electro hip-hop duo LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem featuring singer Lauren Bennet and writer/producer GoonRock holds the top spot in the Official Singles Chart for a second week as Adele’s 21 regains the number one spot in the Official Albums Chart, the Official Charts Company confirms today.
LMFAO survived a chart battle earlier in the week when they faced a strong challenge from London rapper Wretch 32 whose second single Unorthodox featuring Example was just behind Party Rock Anthem in Wednesday’s Official Charts Update. By the end of the chart week, however, Party Rock Anthem had pulled ahead by a convincing margin of some 30% while Unorthodox, a new entry at number two, is the only record in the Official Singles Chart Top 10 to jump straight in to the chart having been released this week. Unorthodox follows Wretch 32’s debut single Trakctor which was an Official Singles Chart Top 5 hit earlier this year.
There is just one other new entry in this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 10; Lady Gaga’s Judas at this week’s number nine up from last week’s 14.
Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car, makes a spectacular re-entry at number four climbing from last week’s number 58. The track which peaked at number four in 1988 was recently performed by Britain’s Got Talent contestant Michael Collings.
In the Official Albums Chart, Adele regains her number one spot with 21 as last week’s number one, Foo Fighter’s Wasting Light drops back to number two. 21 continues to sell strongly – adding another 90,000 copies to its tally this week – and has now been in the Official Albums Chart for 13 weeks, 12 of them at number one. Adele’s album 19 stays at number three this week.
There is just one new entry in the Official Albums Chart Top 10; London rapper and songwriter Chipmunk is straight in at number ten with Transition the follow up to his 2009 debut album I Am Chipmunk which peaked at number two.
