The Bleeding Love star has ended her long-term deal with Sony to sign with Universal’s Island Records.

After seven years and four Official Albums Chart Top 20 albums with Sony, British singer/songwriter Leona Lewis has signed a new record contract with Universal’s Island Records, whose roster boasts the likes of Drake, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj, to name a few!

Speaking about her new deal, Leona said "I feel honoured to be given the opportunity to sign to perhaps the most iconic label of all, Island Records."

"To me Island has always been a label where artists can really flourish and are encouraged to express themselves" she continued, "Island stands for quality music and signing with such a legendary label is really like a dream come true for me."

Darcus Beese, president of Island added, "We are absolutely delighted to welcome Leona into the Island family. I’ve watched and admired Miss Lewis from afar, witnessed her grow into one of this country’s most formidable female artists".

Leona first rose to fame when she became the winner of the third series of The X Factor in 2006. Signing with Sony upon her win, she has since become the show’s most successful solo artist, claiming 14 Official Singles Chart Top 40s and four Official Albums Chart Top 20s to date.

Back in 2013, Leona also became the first British female solo artist to score eight UK Top 5 singles, overtaking previous record holder, British-born Olivia Newton John’s tally of seven UK Top 5s.
