Lady Gaga's comeback is off to a strong start as her new single Perfect Illusion lands at Number 1 on this week's Official Trending Chart.

The star's latest track tops the list of songs making a big impact in the UK this week, based on movement up the Official Singles Chart (full methodology below).

Released last Friday (September 9), Perfect Illusion is on course to debut inside the Top 10 on the Official Singles Chart, currently at Number 4 in the latest sales flash.

Gaga promoted the release of Perfect Illusion in London last week by co-hosting BBC Radio 1's Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw, and later performed a surprise gig at East London's intimate Moth club.

Also making waves is Sia's latest offering The Greatest. Since its release last week, the song has been surging up the Official Singles Chart and looks set for a Top 10 placing this Friday (September 16).

Two brand new singles also make an appearance on this week's Official Trending Chart: James Arthur's comeback track Say You Won't Let Go and Post Malone's Deja Vu ft. Justin Bieber. The former is on course for a Top 40 debut this Friday, currently at 30.

Finally, OneRepublic hit this week's trending Top 20 with their latest track Kids. The Ryan Tedder-fronted band recently performed on Radio 1's Live Lounge and last week and announced details of their new album Oh My My, which is out on October 7.

About the Official Trending Chart

The Official Trending Chart is a brand new chart launched for 2016 to highlight the hottest new tracks beginning to make an impact in the UK every week.

The Top 20 rundown, published on OfficialCharts.com every Tuesday, based on the first four days’ sales of each chart week, is designed to highlight emerging hits as they begin to scale the Official Charts and build buzz.

The Official Trending Chart ranks titles which are showing week-on-week chart growth, and is the only “new music” chart to reflect audio track sales and streams comprehensively across all services.

Devised by the Official Charts Company in close consultation with labels, retailers and media, the chart since launch has already highlighted emerging hits such as Number 1 singles Mike Posner’s I Took A Pill In Ibiza and Drake's One Dance.

The chart is designed to help highlight hit singles in their early stages of their growth, in the light of the shift in release strategies of record labels over the past six months. Under “On Air On Sale”, labels have started to release new music for consumers to buy or stream on the same day as those tracks are released to media (including radio stations and TV).

The James Arthur track is massive and the video. No air play or promotion yet. I can't imagine it not appealing to the masses. It's very refreshing, one of UK's credible singer/songwriter to watch. Album Nov 4th.

As of this very moment, Lady Gaga is at number 12 on the UK
chart. The Chainsmokers are currently at #1. She did manage to
bag her #1 for 48 hours - but she quickly started plummenting. Taking all
things into consideration, it isn't such a great comeback afterall.

Yeah, it's just not that great of a song. When your fans start losing their minds because there's a key change, you're not doing your job.
