Lady Gaga and Pitbull each extend their tenure at the top of the Official Charts today as Lady Gaga’s Born This Way lands a second week at Official Albums Chart number one and Pitbull’s Give Me Everything featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer scores its third week as Official Singles Chart number one.
Indeed, in the Official Albums Chart, the top three is unchanged from last week with Adele’s albums 21 and 19 taking the number two and number three spots respectively.
The Official Albums Chart Top 10 sees four new entries, the highest from The Pierces, Alabama-raised sisters Allison and Catherine, whose album You & I is straight in at number four. This feat marks a long-awaited breakthrough for the duo who have released three previous albums over the last ten years and were about to dissolve their band when Coldplay’s Chris Berryman and Grammy-award winning producer Rik Simpson took them on to record You & I as the first project for their new production company. Their previous best Official Charts placing was for single You’ll Be Mine which peaked at number 46 in 2010.
Elsewhere, US bluesman Seasick Steve scores his third Official Albums Chart Top 10 hit with You Can’t Teach An Old Dog New Tricks straight in at number six while soul singer and rapper Aloe Blacc sees his debut album Good Things (which features the current number two single I Need A Dollar) climb from last week’s number 14 to this week’s number eight and veteran UK rock band Status Quo land the 34th Top 40 hit of their career with Quid Pro Quo straight in at number 10.
Take That’s former number one album Progress re-enters the Official Albums Chart Top 10 this week climbing from last week’s 16 to this week’s number nine with the band currently performing sell-out shows around the country on their Progress Tour.
There are three new entries in the Official Singles Chart Top 10; Italian DJ Alex Gaudino claims his fourth Top 10 hit in four years with What A Feeling featuring Kelly Rowland straight in at number six, Rihanna’s California King Bed, from her number one album Loud, climbs from last week’s number 20 to this week’s number eight and Jennifer Lopez’s I’m Into You featuring Lil Wayne climbs from last week’s 13 to this week’s number 10.
