Lady Gaga Lands Sensational Chart Double

21/03/2010

Lady Gaga reigns at the top of the Official Singles Chart with her fourth UK number one single Telephone, featuring Beyonce, and is back for a third stint at number one in the Official Albums Chart with The Fame, the Official Charts Company confirms today.

The result is evidence of a surge in end-of-week sales for Lady Gaga.  The Official Chart Update broadcast on Wednesday on BBC Radio 1, revealed a three-way battle for supremacy in the Official Singles Chart between Tinie Tempah, Lady Gaga and Rihanna, with last week's number one Tinie Tempah holding on to his lead albeit by a narrow margin.  In the Official Albums Chart, the moves were even more dramatic.  The Official Chart Update showed The Fame to be sitting at number four with the Glee: The Music. Volume 2, Series 1, from the cast of the Glee television series, comfortably in pole position and looking a strong contender for this week's number one.

Martin Talbot, managing director, the Official Charts Company said: "It's a pheonmenal achievement for Lady Gaga and show just how much the chart can change in only a matter of days."

The feat comes in the wake of the acclaim and controversy stirred by the video for Telephone which, at nearly ten minutes long, clocked up over 20.5 million hits in its first week since being premiered on Vevo.

Lady Gaga's previous UK number one singles are the twice chart-topping Bad Romance, Poker Face and Just Dance.  Poker Face and Just Dance were the biggest and third-biggest selling singles of 2009 respectively.

Of the other contenders for number one in this week's Official Singles Chart, Tinie Tempah's Pass Out is at number two and Rihanna's Rude Boy is at number three. There is just one new entry in the Official Singles Chart Top 10: Inna's Hot at number eight.

In the Official Albums Chart Top 10: Glee: The Music. Volume 2, Series 1 is a new entry at number two while the first volume from the series is at number six.  There are no other new entries in the Official Albums Chart Top 10.
