The competition for Best Original Song category at this year's Oscars is going to be a fierce one; with Sam Smith going up against the likes of Lady Gaga and The Weeknd.

Sam has been nominated for the coveted prize for his James Bond theme Writing's On The Wall. Will he follow in the footsteps of Adele, who picked up the prize in 2013 for her Bond song Skyfall?

One of his competitors is Lady Gaga, who picks up a nod for her emotional track Till It Happens To You from movie The Hunting Ground. The ballad was co-written by Diane Warren, who's responsible for a (seriously) incredible list of power ballads. Fresh from her Golden Globes win for her turn in American Horror Story, could Gaga's luck be in for the big prize this year?

Other songs tipped for this year's Best Original Song are The Weeknd's Earned It from Fifty Shades Of Grey, Simple Song #3 by Sumi Jo, Viktoria Mullova and the BBC Orchestra from Youth, and Manta Ray by J Ralph and Antony from the film Racing Extinction.

Elsewhere, the Amy Winehouse film Amy is up for Best Documentary and will go up against Nina Simone doc What Happened, Miss Simone?

On the movies front, The Revenant leads the way in this year's nominations with 12 nods, while Mad Max: Fury Road picked up 10. Click here to see the full nominations list.
