City of Stars, the song performed by Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone from the film La La Land has won the Oscar for Best Original Song.

Unlike its parent film which was named the Best Picture before it was revealed a mistake had been made (oops!), City of Stars was correctly honoured in the music portion of the Academy Awards, which took place in Los Angeles last night (February 26).

The track was voted the winner over songs including Lin-Manuel Miranda's How Far I'll Go from Disney's Moana and Sting's The Empty Chair from Jim The James Foley Story.

Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop The Feeling from Dreamworks' Trolls was also nominated, and while JT didn't get the win on the night, he did open the show with a slick, effortless performance of the song, which hit Number 2 in the UK and Number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

The good news continues for La La Land, which also won Best Original Song at the Golden Globes. The musical movie's composer Justin Hurwitz also took home the gong for Best Original Score at the Oscars, which were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

The La La Land soundtrack has been hugely popular worldwide, even becoming the first soundtrack in nearly four years to chart at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart

The film's Music Director and Executive Music Producer Marius De Vries told OfficialCharts.com: "This is fantastic. We always knew as we were working on it that we were working on something special, but you can never anticipate whether that special-ness will translate in universal - or even partial - public acceptance."
