Katy Perry and Arctic Monkeys are the first acts to be confirmed for the 2014 BRITs, with designer Phillip Treacy designing the iconic award.

Katy Perry and Arctic Monkeys will be performing at the 2014 BRIT awards on 19th February 2014, with James Cordon confirmed to present the awards for the fifth time, making him their longest-running host.

This is the first time the Sheffield band have performed at the event. Since their debut Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, the four-piece have won four BRIT awards – Best Breakthrough Act in 2006, British Album and British Group in 2007 and Best Album in 2008.

Katy Perry, whose third album Prism went to Number 1 earlier this month, is also performing for the first time on the show, having been nominated for four BRITs and winning International Solo Artist in 2009.

This year’s award, designed by Phillip Treacy, follows on from past efforts by Vivienne Westwood, Damien Hirst and Sir Peter Blake.

BPI Chairman Tony Wadsworth said: “The BRITs story continues to reach new heights even after more than 30 years. The constant change and reinvention ensures it stays the No.1 music event in the calendar and brings new opportunities and renewed commitment from our partners, especially ITV, MasterCard and AEG.”

The nominations will be announced in a stand-alone show, The BRIT Awards Nominations Launch, on ITV.
