10/04/2011

Global entertainment superstar Jenifer “JLO” Lopez’s On The Floor featuring US rapper Pitbull is number one for a second week in the Official Singles Chart while Adele’s 21 notches up a record breaking eleventh week in the Official Albums Chart the Official Charts Company confirms today.

Since making her UK chart debut in 1999 with Waiting For Tonight  which peaked at number 15, Lopez has sold some 3 million singles in the UK.  Her chart tally includes nine Official Singles Chart Top 5 hits and the three number ones On The Floor (2011), Get Right (2005) and Love Don’t Cost A Thing (2001).  On The Floor is the first of her number one singles to stay at the top for longer than one week.

Lopez has sold over 55 million records worldwide and has starred in multiple box office hits including The Wedding Planner and Monster-In-Law.

Elsewhere in the Official Singles Chart Top 10 there are three new entries, all moving up in to the top 10; Katy Perry scores her eighth Official Singles Chart Top 10 hit with  ET featuring Kanye West moving up to number five (up from last week’s number 12), 19-year-old US rapper Mann makes his Official Singles Chart Top 10 debut with Buzzin featuring 50 Cent new at number six (up from last week’s 11) and Snoop Dog’s Sweat is at number nine (up from last week’s 16).

In the Official Albums Chart, Adele's seven times platinum 21 now boasts the most consecutive weeks at number one for a solo artist's studio album in chart history.  Elvis Presley has had albums with longer runs at number one but these were both soundtrack albums, GI Blues (12 consecutive weeks at number one) and Blue Hawaii (17 consecutive weeks at number one).

No record has a had a longer run at number one since 1984 when Bob Marley and the Wailers’ greatest hits compilation Legend spent 12 consecutive weeks in the top spot.

There are just two new entries in the Official Albums Chart Top 10; UK singer-songwriter Katy B is straight in at number two with her debut album On A Mission and Scottish indie rock band Glasvegas are straight in at number ten with Euphoric Heartbreak, the follow-up to their self-titled 2008 debut  which peaked at number two.

Three albums re-enter this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 10; Michael Buble’s 2009 number one Crazy Love moves up to this week’s number seven (from last week’s 12), Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans, number one in January this year, is this week’s number eight (up from last week’s 11) and Elbow’s Build A Rocket Boys which peaked at number two last month is this week’s number nine (up from last week’s 14).
