Jameela Jamil set to takeover Radio 1's Official Chart Show from Reggie Yates.
After five years in the Official Chartb hotseat, Reggie is set to leave Radio 1 later this year to concentrate on his TV work which includes BBC 1’s reality TV singing contest The Voice, and his documentary work for BBC 3.
“I have absolutely loved my time hosting the Official Chart Show,” said Reggie. “It’s been a privilege to deliver to the nation the weekly Number 1 song, but after 10 years at Radio 1 and 1Xtra I am looking forward to focusing on other projects and new challenges.”
Reggie first started counting down the weekly countdown of the nation’s biggest selling singles with co-host Fearne Cotton in 2007, before flying solo in 2009.
“I’d like to thank Reggie who has been an excellent ambassador for Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra during his 10 years with us,” said BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra Controller Ben Cooper.
Jameela Jamil, who currently presents Radio 1’s Request Show immediately after the Official Chart, is set to take over from Reggie. She will become the first solo female presenter of the Official Chart Show since Radio 1 started broadcasting it in 1967.
“I am absolutely delighted and honoured!,” said Jameela. “I'm fully aware that I have big shoes to fill and am so excited to get started... I've grown up listening to the Official Chart so I cannot thank Radio 1 enough for the amazing opportunity.”
Previous Official Chart presenters have included:
