Foals’ Holy Fire misses out on the Official Albums Chart Number 1 spot by less than 1,000 copies.
Foals have landed the highest charting album of their career with third studio project Holy Fire!
Holy Fire was looking like a contender for the top spot on Wednesday’s Official Chart Update, however, despite a strong midweek lead, Holy Fire was pipped to the Number 1 slot by less than 1,000 copies as they raced over Sunday’s finish line.
The Motion Picture Cast Recording of Tom Hooper’s big screen adaptation of Les Miserables maintains its hold at the peak for a fourth (non-consecutive) week.
By landing the Number 2 slot today, Oxford rockers Foals pick up a personal best; 2008’s Antidotes and 2010’sTotal Life Forever peaked at Number 3 and Number 8.
Aside from Foals’ Holy Fire, there are five other new entries in today’s Official Albums Chart Top 40.
Bullet For My Valentine grab this week’s second highest new entry with Temper Temper at Number 11. Meanwhile congratulations to Ivor Novello Award winning guitarist and songwriter Richard Thompson who scores the highest charting solo album of his 40+ year career today with Electric which debuts at Number 16 today. His previous personal best was 2010’s Dream Attic which peaked at Number 20.
Swedish / Ethiopian singer songwriter and Eurovision contestant Emilia Mitiku (of Big Big World fame) is back in the charts with fifth studio album, I Belong To You (22), while London-based dubstep crossover duo, Modestepsettle at Number 23 with debut album, Evolution Theory.
Canadian twins Tegan And Sara make their chart debut with Heartthrob at 38, while Ocean Colour Scene miss out on a Top 40 placing with their first new material in almost three years, Painting, new in at Number 49.
