Example looks set to round off a busy summer 2011 with his second Official Number One single of the season, according to today’s Official Charts Update.
Following the success of Changed The Way You Kiss Me, which topped the Official Singles Chart for two weeks back in June this year, the London-born singer and rapper (real name Elliot Gleave) is on course to score his second Official Number One on the bounce with new release Stay Awake. The single is taken from forthcoming album Playing In The Shadows, which is due for digital release on 4th September and out in stores from 5th September.
Young British singer/songwriter du jour, Ed Sheeran, enters the Official Singles Update at Number Two with You Need Me I Don’t Need You, with last week’s chart topper Olly Murs Ft. Rizzle Kicks in at Three with Heart Skips A Beat. Closely on the tails of the X Factor runner-up are Maroon 5 Ft. Christina Aguilera with Moves Like Jagger (4) and Calvin Harris’s Feel So Close (5).
Another high new entry in today’s Official Chart Update comes courtesy of Bajan 4-piece Cover Drive with Lick Ya Down.
The Official Albums Chart is looking to be hijacked this Sunday by a smattering of new releases. Red Hot Chili Peppers storm into the lead for Official Number One Album with I’m With You, the Rick Rubin-produced follow-up to 2006’s chart-topping Stadium Arcadium. I’m With Youis the first album to feature new guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer, following the departure of long-serving band member, John Frusciante.
The race for second and third place in the Official Albums Chart this weekend is separated by just a handful of copies. David Guetta, the go-to producer for dancefloor-friendly pop bangers, enters the chart at Number Two with Nothing But The Beat. The fifth studio album from the French DJ features an all-star cast of collaborators including Snoop Dogg, Jessie J and Will.I.Am.
Last week’s Official Number One album, Will Young’s Echoes, is this week at Three, whilst Adele’s 21 takes up fourth spot, marking its 32nd consecutive week in the Top Four of the Official Albums Chart.
Other high new entries this week include Bombay Bicycle Club’s A Different Kind Of Fix (5) and Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter 4. Queen of country music, Dolly Parton, enters at Nine with Better Day, with Hayley Westenra and Ennio Morricone’s Paradiso (10)on course to complete this week’s Top Ten.

The Official Chart Update gives music fans a weekly sneak preview of the Official Singles and Albums Charts. Every Wednesday from 3.30pm to 4pm, Greg James provides a "half-time" bulletin on his BBC Radio 1 Show, letting music fans in on who is leading the way in the Official Singles & Albums Charts ahead of the Sunday Official Chart announcement.
The Update reveals how the runners and riders are selling in the first three days of the sales week (Sunday through Tuesday), outlining the hottest new tracks of the week so far, as well as the new entries and highest climbers.
