Elbow claim their first ever UK Number 1 album with The Take Off And Landing Of Everything.

Congratulations to Elbow who have gone in straight in at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart todaywith The Take Off And Landing Of Everything. Guy Garvey and co’s sixth studio album has knocked Pharrell Williams G I R L (sliding two places to Number 3 today)off the top spot after just one week.

Despite being national treasures, notably being asked by the BBC to write and perform the official theme song for the London 2012 Olympic Games, this is, surprisingly, Elbow’s first ever chart topping album here in the UK; the Bury-based group’s previous highest charting album was 2011’s Build A Rocket Boys!, which peaked at Number 2.

Replicating the performance of 2012’s Fall To Grace, Paloma Faith is new in at Number 2 on this week’s Official Albums Chart with her third studio album, A Perfect Contradiction. Bastille’s Bad Blood (down one to Number 4) and Arctic Monkey’s AM (static at Number 5) complete this week’s Top 5.

Metronomy score their first Top 10 album today with Love Letters. The quartet’s follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2011 album, The English Riviera, is new in at Number 7.
