Ed Sheeran’s X becomes longest running Number 1 album of the year

There’s no stopping him! Ed Sheeran celebrates a fourth consecutive week at Number 1 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart with his second full-length, X.

X became the fastest selling artist album of 2014 so far up on its release last month, with more than 182,000 sales during its first week on sale.  Today it becomes the longest running Number 1 of the year to date, overtaking Paolo Nutini’s three week stand at the chart’s summit back in April with Caustic Love.

According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data X has sold over 367,000 copies in the UK to date.

Morrissey claims this week’s highest new entry with his critically acclaimed, tenth solo album, World Peace Is None Of Your Business (Number 2).

The remainder of the Top 5 remains static on last week with Dolly Parton’s Blue Smoke at Number 3, Sam Smith’s former chart topper, In The Lonely Hour, at 4, and George Ezra’s Wanted On Voyage at 5.

New Entries

Enigmatic London-based collective Jungle are new in at Number 7 with their self-titled debut album.

Judas Priest enter at Number 12 with their 17th studio album, Redeemer Of Souls. It is the legendary British heavy metal band’s highest charting album in the UK since Screaming For Vengeance in 1982.

US political punk band Rise Against enter one place behind them to score the highest charting album of their career with The Black Market. And finally, Jason Mraz is new in at 18 with his fifth album, Yes!
