Drake is no stranger to the record books, and his dominant reign at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart could be about to land him another spot in them.

God’s Plan, the headline single from Drake’s latest EP Scary Hours, has spent eight weeks at the top of the chart, leaving Rudimental out in the cold at Number 2 for the last six with These Days.

While Rudimental had a midweek lead on Drake last week, Drizzy has turned the tables today, and leads by a narrow 555 copies. Should Drake hold on, God’s Plan will become one of only 21 songs to have achieved nine or more weeks at Number 1 in the Official Singles Chart’s 67-year history.

Elsewhere in this week’s Top 5, George Ezra is closing in on a second Top 5 appearance of his career, with Paradise up eight places to Number 4 following his performance on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

New entries and high climbers

Meanwhile, Zedd’s The Middle ft. Maren Morris and Grey, continues to edge up the Top 10, climbing two places to Number 8 on today’s update, and Meant To Be, another country crossover track by Bebe Rexha ft. Florida Georgia Line, vaults nine to Number 11.

Sigala & Paloma Faith’s new collaboration Lullaby is also set for a big climb this week, currently up six spots to Number 13.

American rapper and comedian Lil Dicky is set to score this week’s highest new entry with Freaky Friday ft. Chris Brown (20), and finally, fresh from the release of his album ‘?’, rapper XXXTentacion has two songs in this week’s Top 40: Sad! rises seven to Number 21, and Moonlight is a potential new entry at Number 40.

Where's Bieber ? He would have ended Drakes' reign a lot sooner.

Even as someone that liked God's Plan (unlike everyone else), Drake's long run is getting a bit ridiculous now. We probably won't have another One Dance on our hands as ACR is inevitable, which is good as I was really annoyed by that song after the 10th week or so, and I loved it at first. I don't want my memories to be tainted by that with God's Plan for sure!

I do hope someone other than Rudimental goes to the top though, they should be due for a decrease in sales but I think it might avoid ACR looking at the numbers. It will be really refreshing to see a fairly new song at the top, and I don't like These Days that much anyway.

So as for who I'd like at number 1, I quite like George Ezra's Paradise and it has a fair chance at the top spot. He's number 1 on iTunes right now, above These Days, and has risen considerably since it was released- he just needs to improve on streaming a bit to get higher I think.

Friends could also be a potential new #1, as it's stayed quite consistent in streaming throughout this, and so has Portugal. The Man's Feel It Still. I'd rather the former than the latter in this case, but I'm welcoming most anything at this point!

So much for being "God's Plan"'s final week at #1...

You really thought it wouldn't be at the top again? It's very likely it's gonna get another week, as Monday's streaming data isn't included in the midweek update- probably why Rudimental were at the top last week.

That said, next week will probably be the last for him, ACR is inevitable. But the same could happen for These Days, so we could have something else- possibly George Ezra's Paradise or Feel It Still.

If These Days stays at #2, it'll match the record for most consecutive weeks at #2 for a non-chart topper, currently held by All-4-One's I Swear and Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera's Moves Like Jagger.

Actually you need to go back to 1953 for Limelight by The Frank Chacksfield Orchestra with 8 weeks though it wasn't all in a row
