Dizzee Rascal nails his fourth number one single as new release Dirtee Disco leaps straight to the top of the Official Singles Chart, the Official Charts Company confirms today.
Like Dizzee’s previous number one singles, Dance Wiv Me (2008), Bonkers (2009) and Holiday (2009), Dirtee Disco is off the rapper/producer’s fourth album, the platinum selling Tongue ‘n’ Cheek. which was released last year peaking at number three.
Dizzee, named Best Male at this year’s Brit Awards, is the first male solo artist ever to have had four number one singles off the same album.
He has now sold over two million singles in the UK alone.
A deluxe version of Tongue ‘n’ Cheek, Tongue ‘n’ Cheek: Dirtee Deluxe, a double CD featuring previously unheard and exclusive material is released May 31st on Dizzee’s own label Dirtee Stank.
Dizzee’s previous albums are the Mercury Award winning Boy In Da Corner (number twenty three, 2003), Showtime (number eight, 2004) and Maths and English (number seven, 2007).
Dizzee will be touring throughout the summer. Dates include Cape Town on June 13th and Glastonbury on June 25th.
There are four other new entries in this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 10: Iyaz’s Solo is straight in at number three (following Iyaz’s January number one hit Replay), Eminem’s Not Afraid, the first single from his forthcoming album Recovery, is straight in at number five, N-Dubz’ We Dance On feat Bodyrox is straight in at number six and Sean Kingston and Justin Bieber’s Eenie Meenie is at number ten up from last week’s number seventeen.
In the Official Albums Chart, electro-rock/drum ‘n’ bass Australians Pendulum score their first UK number one album with Immersion.
Immersion follows Pendulum’s two previous studio albums, both platinum selling, the Top 30 Hold Your Colour (2005) and In Silico (2008) which peaked at number two in the UK.
Pendulum will be touring the UK and Ireland this summer.
There are two other new entries in this week’s Official Album’s Chart Top 10: The Glee Cast’s Glee The Music – Volume 3 is straight in at number three giving the TV show its fourth top five album in just four months, and Katie Melua’s first studio album in three years, the William Orbit produced The House, is straight in at number four.
Michael Buble’s former number one album Crazy Love is a re-entry at number two, up from last week’s nineteen, following last weekend’s TV broadcast “An Audience With…Michael Buble.” Two other Michael Buble albums have returned to the Top 40 this week, Call Me Irresponsible is at number thirty-one (up from last week’s seventy-four) and It’s Time is at thirty-three (up from last week’s eighty-eight).
