Disney’s Frozen smashes though half-a-million DVD and Blu-ray sales

Disney’s latest animated epic is set to become the biggest selling DVD and Blu-ray release of 2014.

Disney’s Frozen looks set to go straight in at Number 1 on the Official Video Chart this weekend, and, in doing so, is on course to become the UK’s biggest selling DVD and Blu-ray release of 2014 so far.

According to latest Official Charts Company sales data, more than half a million copies of Disney’s newest animated adventure have been snapped up in the UK since it went on sale on Monday. After just 48 hours in the shops, Frozen is already the fastest selling video title of the year so far, beating previous record holder The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’s full first week tally of 457,000 copies.

The film stars Kristen Bell and the voice of Anna, Princess of Arendelle, and Idina Menzel as the voice of Elsa, The Snow Queen of Arendelle. Idina recently took home the Oscar for Best Original Song for Top 20 hit Let It Go from the film’s soundtrack. The Frozen original soundtrack has also gone on to become the best-selling compilation of 2014 to date with sales of 177,000 copies so far this year and 191,000 in total.

Action thriller Homefront, which stars Jason Statham, James Franco, and Winona Ryder, is this week’s second highest new entry on today’s Official Video Chart Update at Number 2. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is down one place to Number 3, while Steve Coogan and Dame Judi Dench’s Philomena falls three places to Number 4 today, and The Family (starring Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer) is new in at Number 5.
