2008 X Factor Semi Finalist Diana Vickers leaps straight to number one in the Official Albums Chart with her debut album Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree the Official Charts Company announces today.
This follows the number one success of her debut single Once which leapt straight to the top of the Official Singles Chart when it was released last month. Once is still in the Top 10 – at number eight this week.
Still just eighteen years old, Vickers has also achieved acclaim on the stage. The launch of her music career was postponed when she was offered the lead of Little Voice in the 2009 West End revival of The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice, a role for which she subsequently won London Newcomer Of The Year at the Theatregoers’ Choice Awards in February 2010.
There is just one other new entry in the Official Albums Chart Top 10, American country music group Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now is straight in at number eight.
In the Official Singles Chart, Roll Deep stay at number one for a second week with Good Times featuring guest vocalist Jodie Connor.
Roll Deep became one of the figureheads of the nascent grime scene in 2005 when they released their debut album In At The Deep End as well as two singles, The Avenue which peaked at number eleven in July 2005 and Shake A Leg which peaked at number twenty four later that year.
Roll Deep’s alumni include number one artists Dizzee Rascale and Tinchy Stryder. The current line-up includes founder members Wiley, Breeze, Scratchy, Flow Dan and Danny Weed, as well as crew veterans Brazen, Manga, J2K and Target.
There are two new entries in the Official Singles Chart Top 10: Australian drum ‘n’ bass crew Pendulum are straight in at number four with Watercolour and South American born, South London raised MC Aggro Santos is straight in at number five with Candy featuring Kimberly Watts.
