Daft Punk have scored the fastest selling album of 2013 so far, and their first ever UK Number 1 album, with Random Access Memories.

Daft Punk will no doubt be celebrating in style this evening after scoring their first ever UK Number 1 album with Random Access Memories.

The French duo’s fourth studio full-length has also become the fastest selling album of 2013 so far, shifting an incredible 165,000 copies during its first week on sale. This beats previous record set by Canadian crooner Michael Buble, who clocked up more than 121,000 sales of his latest effort, To Be Loved, during its first week of release last month.

Random Access Memories’ lead single, Get Lucky FT N.E.R.D’s Pharrell Williams and Chic’s Nile Rodgers, has also become 2013’s biggest selling single so far. It has sold more than 711,000 copies since it went on sale six weeks ago.

Comments Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company’s Managing Director:

“After the massive success of their first Official UK Number 1 single Get Lucky, it is little surprise that Daft Punk have also secured their first Official Number 1 album in the UK, too – but they have done so with some style. Having now claimed the fastest selling album and the biggest selling single of the year, Daft Punk truly are the musical phenomenon of 2013 so far. Viva les robots!”

Last week’s chart topper Rod Stewart’s Time falls one place to Number 2. Had it not been up against Daft Punk, Time would have held onto Number 1 for a second week running having sold a further 52,000 copies in the last seven days. Meanwhile, The National notch up their second Top 5 album in a row today with Trouble Will Find Me (Number 3), and Texas return to the Official Albums Chart after a near eight year absence with The Conversation (4).

This week’s Top 5 is completed by LA trio 30 Seconds To Mars, who score their highest charting UK album to date with Love Lust Faith + Dreams (5).

New entries

In addition to Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories (1), The National’s Trouble Will Find Me (3), TexasThe Conversation (4) and 30 Seconds To Mars Love Lust Faith + Dreams (5), there are four other new entries on this week’s Official Albums Chart.

Demi Lovato scores her highest charting UK album to date today. The former Disney star and current X Factor US judge is new in at Number 10 today with her fourth studio album, Demi. Meanwhile Jamie Cullum debuts at Number 20 with his sixth album, Momentum.

This week’s new entries are completed by Aussie rockers Airbourne’s Black Dog Barking (22) and Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa’s Seesaw (27).
