Chris Brown is still leading the race to Number 1 according to today’s Official Singles Chart Update.

As reported yesterday, the Virginia-born singer’s new single, Turn Up The Music, is on course to evict current chart topper, Katy Perry’s Part Of Me from the summit of the Official Singles Chart this Sunday. This would be a personal best for Brown whose highest chart placing to date as a lead artist was Number 2 with debut single, Run It!, back in 2006.

Meanwhile Jamaican singer Sean Paul looks set to hold on to second place, with She Doesn’t Mind, still going strong at Number 2. Katy Perry’s Part Of Me looks likely to slip from Number 1 to Number 3, while Gotye and Kimbra’s Somebody That I Used To Know is also down one from Number 3 to Number 4. Nicki Minaj’s Satrships completes this week’s Official Update Top 5.

New releases

Plan B is back with the critically-acclaimed Ill Manors single, the first taster of his hotly anticipated, third studio record of the same name.

Ill Manors is a radical departure from Plan B's 2010 Number 1 concept album, The Defamation Of Strickland Banks, and will see the four times platinum star to his rap roots to tackle real-life social issues.

“Since the riots happened I haven't heard enough people within the public sector asking the two most important questions; 'Why did it happen and how can we prevent it from happening again?',” explains Plan B. “I do have a theory as to why and how but first I need to make my point. And I’ve chosen satire to do so.

“The point being made in my song Ill Manors is that society needs to take some responsibility for the cause of these riots,” he adds. “Why are there so many kids in this country that don't feel they have a future, or care about having a criminal record?”

Ill Manors the single is on course to enter at Number 6 this Sunday, the album will be released on May 14.

This week’s Official Singles Chart Update Top 40 new entries are completed by B Traits whose debut single and rave anthem, Fever, features guest vocalist Elisabeth Troy and is on course for Number 32, while Jessie J’s Mamma Knows Best from debut album Who You Are is looking likely to enter at Number 40.
