Chris Brown set to bag his first Official UK Number 1 with THAT track

Chris Brown set to bag his first Official UK Number 1 with THAT track

By Dan Lane

Chris Brown is on course to score the highest charting single of his career in the UK, according to the latest Official Charts Company figures, with the track that caused a flurry of media controversy when a remix featuring ex-girlfriend Rihanna surfaced online recently.

The Virginia-born singer’s new single, Turn Up The Music, is this morning leading this week’s Official Singles Chart charge and could knock current chart-topper Katy Perry’s Part Of Me off Number 1 this Sunday. This would be a personal best for Brown who’s highest chart placing to date as a lead artist was Number 2 with his debut single, Run It!, back in 2006. See his full Official Charts history here.

However, while the subject matter of Turn Up The Music seems entirely innocent, critics have branded it ‘controversial’ after a remix by Brown’s ex-girlfriend Rihanna, who he split from in 2009 following allegations of domestic violence, appeared online last month.

Rihanna told American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, "We did two records, one for my fans [the Birthday Cake remix] and one for his fans, and that way our fans can come together. There shouldn't be a divide, you know, it's music and it's innocent."

"Let [the critics] be mad!” added Brown on his Twitter. “We make music. Don't like it, don't listen!"

The track’s producers The Underdogs have said it was inspired by “[Brown] visualising how he dances and how he performs, and giving him something to match that energy”

While there are currently no plans to release the Rihanna remix of Turn Up The Music, it seems Brown is already dancing his way to the top of the charts all by himself.
