Cee Lo Green and Tinie Tempah Top Official Charts

10/10/2010

Cee Lo Green, the US soul sensation from Atlanta, leaps straight to number one in the Official Singles Chart, with sales breaking the 100,000 barrier the Official Charts Company confirms today.

Forget You has led the race for number one all week since the Official Chart Update was announced on Wednesday.  The track has been one of the most talked about (and viewed) viral sensations of the summer, recorded in its original form F*** You in a reaction to a relationship break-up.  The track prompted such a following that it was re-recorded as the more radio-friendly Forget You and given a full commercial release.

The track has sold some 107,000 copies in its first week alone, making it one of just seven singles this year so far to have had week 1 sales of over 100,000 copies. (See below for full list.)

Cee Lo Green first came to prominence in the UK as co-writer and vocalist for Gnarls Barkley, a collaboration with American producer Danger Mouse.  The duo’s Crazy was the biggest-selling single of 2006 and the first in chart history to get to number one in the Official Singles Chart on downloads alone.  Gnarls Barkley also released the number one album St Elsewhere in 2006 and their follow-up album The Odd Couple was number nineteen in 2008.

Cee Lo Green’s much anticipated third solo album The Lady Killer will be released in November 2010.

Forget You tops a star-studded list of new entries in this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 10, with Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow’s duet Shame taking the next slot at number two.  The single marks the first time that the pair have written and recorded together since Robbie’s departure from the phenomenally successful boy band Take That in 1995.  Between them, as solo artists and as members of Take That, the pair have racked up 19 number one singles and a total of 14.5 million singles sales.

Shame is the lead track on Robbie’s forthcoming album In And Out Of Consciousness – The Greatest Hits 1990 – 2010, is released October 11th.

Progress, the new album from Take That, which will include Robbie to complete the original line-up for the first time since the band re-formed in 2005, is released November 22nd.

There are two other new entries in this week’s Official Singles Chart top 10; Man-of-the-moment Tinie Tempah is straight in at number five with Miami 2 Ibiza in collaboration with DJ production trio Swedish House Mafia while Kings Of Leon score their third UK top 10 single with Radioactive straight in at number seven.

In the Official Albums Chart, Tinie Tempah follows his number one single from last week Written In The Stars with a number one album this week as debut release Disc-Overy lands one of the biggest first weeks for an album this year so far selling some 85,000 copies.

Tinie has now scored two number one singles (Written In The Stars, Pass Out), one number two single (Frisky feat Labrinth) and a number one album (Disc-Overy) all this year and with a number of tracks from the new album being downloaded individually by fans, Tinie has a remarkable six singles in this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 60 (see below for more details).

The only other new entry in this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 10 is A-Ha’s greatest hits collection 25 which is straight in at number ten.
