Cars 3 pulls into pole position on the Official Video Chart Update

The Disney movie is in the lead, but only 2,000 copies separate the Top 3.

There's an extremely close race to Number 1 on the Official Video Chart this week, with three titles vying for DVD and Blu-ray bragging rights this week.

Today's Official Video Chart Update, a midweek look at the best-sellers of the week so far, reveals that just 2,000 units separate the Top 3 movies in the running to top the chart. Disney's Cars 3 is leading the way today with modest sales of 37,000, but the Number 1 is not a guarantee.

Featuring the voice of Owen Wilson, the animated wild-ride will have to rev its engine harder to replicate the success of its predecessors. Both Cars and Cars 2 scored a week at Number 1, the former speeding to sales of 551,000 in its first week on sale.

Last week's Number 1 Despicable Me 3 has dropped a spot to Number 2 at today's halfway point of the week, while Baby Driver starring Ansel Elgort is at Number 3. The movie's soundtrack topped the Official Vinyl Albums Chart in July.

New entries and high climbers

Rugby fans have been enjoying The British & Irish Lions 2017 Uncovered, which could scrum its way to Number 8, while there is an appetite for Mrs Brown's Boys: Christmas Treats (12). The Complete Series 10 of Doctor Who is new at Number 16, while another three possible new entries occupy the slots that follow: Office Christmas Party (17), Peter Kay's Car Share: Series 2 (18), and Joe Wicks: Lean in 15 - Workouts (19).

There's nothing to worry about since Cars 3 will sell even more DVD/Blu-Ray copies during Black Friday and Christmas.
