Bruno Mars anything but Lazy

15/05/2011

Bruno Mars’ The Lazy Song makes the final ascent to the summit of the Official Singles Chart this week, climbing from last week’s number two to this week’s number one, the Official Charts Company confirms today.

The Lazy Song is the third number one single to come from Mars’ debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans (which itself was an Official Albums Chart number one in January this year) following Just The Way You Are (Amazing) (September 2010) and Grenade (January 2011).

Mars, (aka Peter Hernandez), the Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and producer, also counts credits on a number of other hit records as one part of the production/songwriting trio The Smeezingtons, formed with friends Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine, including  Flo Rida’s Right Round (Official Singles Chart number one, 2009) and K’NAAN’s Fifa World Cup song, Wavin’ Flag (Official Singles Chart number two, 2010).  Mars also performed as featured vocalist on the international number one B.o.B’s Nothin’ On You (Official Singles Chart number one, May 2010) and Travie McCoy’s summer anthem Billionaire (Official Singles Chart number three, July 2010).

Mars will be headlining three UK dates this August as well as making a number of festival appearances throughout the summer.

There are two new entries in this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 10;  Give Me Everything from American rapper Pitbull featuring Ne-Yo, Dutch DJ Afrojack and American singer Nayer climbs to number four from last week’s number 12.  Pitbull is also a featured vocalist on the current Jennifer Lopez single On The Floor which is this week’s number seven.  The irrepressible Lady Gaga is straight in with The Edge Of Glory at number six.  Lady Gaga also has singles Judas at number 11 (up from last week’s 20) while Born This Way, which was released in February, is this week’s number 24.  Lady Gaga’s new album, also called Born This Way, is released on May 23rd.

Adele shows no signs of relinquishing her hold on the Official Albums Chart as 21 claims its fifteenth week at the top of the chart and 19 stays at number three but actor and TV star Hugh Laurie takes the accolade of highest new entry as his debut album, the blues influenced, Let Them Talk soars straight in at number two.  With Laurie on vocals and piano, the album also features contributions from such luminaries as Dr John, Irma Thomas and Sir Tom Jones.

There are another two new entries in this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 10; Glee The Music Presents The Warblers from TV’s Glee Cast is straight in at number seven while Sade’s The Ultimate Collection, which includes tracks right across the British jazz/funk band’s near 30 year career, is straight in at number eight.
