BRITs MasterCard British Album of the Year winner, Adele, gets her moment in the spotlight today as her multi-platinum album, 21, returns to the top of the Official Albums Chart for its 21st non-consecutive week at the peak.  21 climbs two places while enjoying a week on week sales uplift of 37%.  21 has impressively never left the Top 10 since its release, the album has now spent 57 weeks on the chart.

The Official Charts Company can today confirm that Adele has now broken 6 million album sales in the UK, with 21 hitting 4 million sales in the same week that her debut album clears the 2 million milestone.  As also reported earlier this week, since her career-changing performance at the BRIT Awards with MasterCard in February 2011, someone has bought one of her albums (either her 2008 debut album, 19, or her 2011 record-breaking follow-up, 21) on average, every seven seconds.

Her singles have climbed a collective 159 places north this week, with signature tracks Someone Like You (32) and Rolling In The Deep (28) both going Top 40.  Rolling In The Deep was performed by the singer/songwriter at Tuesday’s BRITs ceremony and has earned Adele a 33% uplift in sales week on week.

Big sales uplifts for Coldplay, Noel and Florence

The joining of forces of the mighty Chris Martin and Noel Gallagher at piano and guitar at The BRITs seems to have paid off in both camps, as Coldplay and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds score some of the biggest percentage sales increases of the week of all the show’s performers.  Noel’s AKA What A Life climbs 132 places to 47 with a 387% sales uplift week on week, and Coldplay’s pyrotechnic-filled show opener Charlie Brown, shoots up 85 places to Number 30, also with an uplift of 387%.  Accompanying album Mylo Xyloto benefits from a 36% increase in sales since last week.

Elsewhere, after Florence & The Machine’s powerful performance of No Light No Light, the flame-haired singer notches up a 93 place ascent to Number 50, with her two studio albums climbing a combined 36 places.  Her latest album release Ceremonials breaks back into the Top 10 to land at Number 9 with a 72% boost in sales.

The singer/songwriter’s debut album +, creeps back up two places to land at Number 3.

Rihanna

Rihanna’s arena-rocking We Found Love gains a 52% boost in sales this week, with its parent album Talk That Talk also bagging a 38% sales boost as it climbs up 22 places to break back into the Official Singles Chart Top 20 (18).
