The thirst for a new Beyonce album is clearly very real, as her new album Lemonade prepares to make a big splash on this week's Official Albums Chart.

The superstar's surprise sixth album was unveiled on Tidal over the weekend (immediately after its accompanying short film premiered on HBO in America), but its release on iTunes yesterday (April 25) has seen Lemonade charge up the chart overnight.

The record currently sits at Number 2, sandwiched between Prince's The Very Best Of at Number 1 and Prince’s Ultimate (3), plus Prince’s Purple Rain OST (4) and Adele’s 25 rounds off the Top 5 as of Tuesday.

As well as its download release yesterday, the 12-song collection will be given a physical CD release on May 6. It's not been announced when music fans will be able to re-watch Lemonade's short film.

The album has sparked much discussion about the singer's apparent suggestion of Jay Z's infidelity, as the track Don't Hurt Yourself contains the lyric: "If you try this shit again, you gon' lose your wife."

Official Charts Company chief executive Martin Talbot, said: "The huge demand for Prince songs and albums over the past few days serves to underline just what this legendary music icon meant to British music fans.

"Despite a late challenge from Beyonce with the release of her latest album Lemonade, Prince is certain to make a massive impact on the Official Singles and Albums Charts this weekend, particularly impressive given that his music is only available on one streaming service and the albums are in limited supply as CDs and vinyl."

Beyonce kicks off her Formation world tour on Wednesday, April 27 in the US, before hitting the UK in June/July. See the full list of dates here.

The full Lemonade tracklist is as follows:

1. Pray You Catch Me

6. Daddy Lessons

The album is incredible I don't know why she's getting hate on here, she's using her name and fame to raise awareness for some of the social issues of the world. Which a lot of extremely popular artists these days wouldn't even think about, e.g. One Direction, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Rihanna...

This album fully deserves to be number one and I really hope it gets it. Bravo Beyoncé <3
