The superstar Swedish DJ breaks through the half-a-million copies sales barrier to spend third week at Number 1.

The British record buying public’s love affair with Avicii shows no sign of letting up anytime soon as Wake Me Up spends its third consecutive week at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart.

The superstar Swedish DJ and producer scored the fastest selling single of 2013 so far when Wake Me Up clocked up nearly 267,000 sales during its week of release. Since then, it has continued to sell in excess of 120,000 copies per week, and today smashes through the half-a-million copies sales barrier, with an over-all sales tally of 545,000 copies.

“Being the fastest selling record [of 2013] is obviously a huge deal to me,” Avicii told Jameela Jamil on last Sunday’s Official Chart Show on BBC Radio 1. “I never thought being on the Official Chart was an option. Dance music has its own things; we have our own charts and lists. So just being Number 1 is insane!”

John Newman’s former chart topper, Love Me Again, climbs two places to Number 2 today, while Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines holds firm at Number 3. Lana Del Rey’s Summertime Sadness shoots up a massive 28 places from 32 to Number 4 thanks to French DJ Cedric Gervais’ remix, while One Direction’s  Best Song Ever (5) completes this week’s Top 5.

New Entries

There are just two new entries on this week’s Official Singles Chart:

London singer / songwriter Eliza Doolittle claims this week’s highest new entry and her fourth Top 40 hit with the infectious Big When I Was Little (Number 12). Meanwhile AlunaGeorge score their third Top 40 hit with You Know You Like It (39).

And finally, Calvin Harris has made Official Singles Chart history today by becoming the first artist to score nine Top 10 singles from one album. The Scottish DJ and producer climbed five places to Number 9 with Thinking About You FT Ayah Marar, the latest track to be culled from his Number 1 album, 18 Months.

Back in April, Calvin beat Michael Jackson’s record of seven Top 10s from one album with I Need Your Love FT Ellie Goulding climbed to Number 10 (it later peaked at Number 4).
