Amazon has arrived on the music streaming scene today (July 28) with the launch of Prime Music.

The service gives Amazon Prime users access to over one million songs and hundreds of built-in Prime Playlists ad-free and at no additional cost to their membership.

Prime Music also encourages new music discovery with personalised recommendations and is easily combined with a user’s own library of songs. Music can also be saved offline on mobile devices.

The service is the latest addition to Amazon Prime, which offers TV and movie streaming, 800,000 book titles via Kindle and an unlimited one-day delivery service (and one-hour delivery in London) – all for £79 a year.

“UK customers loved it when we added Prime Instant Video and unlimited photo storage into Prime last year, on top of Unlimited One-Day Delivery on millions of items and access to over 800,000 Kindle titles to borrow,” said Christopher North, Managing Director at Amazon UK.

“We said then that we were just getting started, and today we’re introducing Prime Music - more than a million songs from bestselling artists, plus hundreds of Prime Playlists hand-built by our team of music experts - all at no additional cost. Prime Music is the latest great addition for our UK Prime members and we think they’re going to love it."

Amazon's Prime Music follows the recent launch of streaming services Tidal and Apple Music.
