Alexandra Burke leaps straight to the top of the UK’s Official Singles Chart today with Start Without You, featuring American rapper Laza Morgan, debuting at the top of the chart and giving record-breaking Burke her third number one single.
Burke’s previous hits are Hallelujah, the million selling single she recorded after winning the 5th series of the X Factor in 2008, Bad Boys featuring another US rapper, Flo-Rida, which was one of the fastest selling singles of 2009 and Broken Heels which peaked at number eight in January this year. Her debut album Overcome was number one in October 2009.
There are three other new entries in this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 10; Dublin band Script’s For The First time is straight in at number five, McFly’s Party Girl is straight in at number six giving the pop band their fifteenth Top 10 single in just six years and, from the reality show Must Be The Music, Emma’s Imagination’s This Day is straight in at number ten.
In the Official Albums Chart, The Killers’ Brandon Flowers is straight in at number one with his debut solo album Flamingo selling double that of its nearest rival, Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream. This feat means that Flowers maintains his 100% track record of albums topping the chart with Flamingo following the three Killers’ studio albums, all of which went to number one; Hot Fuss (2004), Sam’s Town (2006) and Day & Age (2008).
There are three other new entries in the week’s Official Albums Chart Top 10; The XX’s XX re-enters the Top 10 at number three (up from last week’s sixteen) following their Mercury Prize win last week. The album had previously peaked at number ten in August this year. British synth-pop duo Hurts are straight in at number four with debut album Happiness and long standing US rock band Stone Sour achieve their highest Official Albums Chart standing to date with Audio Secrecy straight in at number six.
