According to the latest Official Charts Company sales data, Adele’s 21 is the biggest selling album of 2012 so far.
The London born singer leads an all-female Top 3 - which also includes Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events (Number 2) and Lana Del Rey’s Born To Die (2) - in the 2012 half-year report published by the British music industry’s trade body, The BPI.
Despite being released over a year ago, Adele’s second album has sold over 596,000 copies this year so far, giving it a total sales figure of 4.36 million copies to date. In May, OfficialCharts.com revealed that 21 has become the UK’s fifth biggest selling album of all time, overtaking Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon, Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms, and Michael Jackson’s equally iconic albums, Bad and Thriller.
Back to the 2012 half-year chart: Scottish singer / songwriter Emeli Sande is in second place with her debut album, Our Version Of Events, which has sold an impressive 532,000 copies since its release in February of this year. US starlet Lana Del Rey is at Number 3 with her second album, Born To Die, ringing up an impressive 482,000 since its release in January.
