Adele regains chart double and claims yet another new record

27/03/2011

Adele’s Someone Like You regains its number one status in the Official Singles Chart while her album 21 notches up its ninth consecutive week at number one in the Official Albums Chart, giving the twenty-two-year-old singer the chart double for the fifth week this year, the Official Charts Company confirms today.

No other original studio album this century has had such a long run at the top of the Official Albums Chart.   Adele’s 21 now equal Madonna’s compilation The Immaculate Collection (1990) for longest consecutive weeks at number one by a solo female artist.

Meanwhile Adele’s debut album 19 stays at number two in the Official Albums Chart.  Adele has now held the top two positions in the Official Albums Chart for three out of the last five weeks.

There are four new entries in this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 10; The Strokes’ fourth album Angels is straight in at number three, Ronan Keating’s homage to songwriter Burt Bacharach, When Ronan Met Burt, is straight in at number five, Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger’s debut solo album Killer Love is straight in at number eight and Chris Brown’s F.A.M.E (Forgiving All My Enemies) is straight in at number 10.

The Official Singles Chart Top 10 sees just one new entry, Just Can’t Get Enough, the new single from Black Eyed Peas which is this week’s number three up from last week’s number 15.
