The seemingly unstoppable Adele continues to blaze through chart achievement after chart achievement.

The Official Charts Company yesterday confirmed that the singer/songwriter’s second album 21 has overtaken Michael Jackson’s Bad to become the eighth biggest selling album of all time in the UK.  As if that wasn’t enough, Adele’s lead in today’s Official Albums Chart Update also now puts her on course to spend her 22nd non-consecutive week in the albums top spot.  Combined with the one week she spent at Number 1 with her debut album, 19, another chart-topping week would see Adele this Sunday overtaking music legend David Bowie in the number of career weeks spent at Number 1 in the Official Albums Chart.

Both David Bowie and Dire Straits have to date amassed 22 weeks in the albums top slot, Adele is set to score her 23rd this weekend if she maintains her lead.  It is The Beatles who currently hold the UK record with an astounding career total of 174 album weeks at Number 1, and in terms of female solo artists, Adele only has Madonna to beat now, who is just ahead at 29 weeks.
