As fans revisit David Bowie's classic works following the sad announcement of his death this week, one of his iconic hits is surging towards this week's Top 10, Official Charts can reveal.

Bowie's Heroes is currently sitting just outside the Top 10 at Number 11 in today's sales flash, leaping from yesterday's position at Number 25.

The current momentum of sales and streams of Heroes puts it in good stead to enter this week's Top 10. If it does, it would be his first since Where Are We Now, which hit Number 6 in 2013. As things stand, the song is just under 3,000 combined sales away from the Top 10, and 7,500 away from the Top 5.

As one of Bowie's best known songs, it may come as a surprise to some that Heroes peaked at Number 24 on the Official Singles Chart upon its 1977 release, meaning the song is almost certain to hit a new peak this Friday (January 15) Click here to check out the track's week by week chart run

However, Heroes did top the chart when it was covered by the 2010 X Factor finalists, logging two weeks at Number 1 that year. The line-up included Matt Cardle, Rebecca Ferguson and Cher Lloyd.

Meanwhile, a further four iconic Bowie songs are on course to enter this week's Official Singles Chart Top 40: Life On Mars is currently at Number 18, Starman (20), Let's Dance (22) and Space Oddity (28). His Queen duet Under Pressure and latest single Lazarus - a song being considered his 'parting gift' to fans for its poignant message - are hovering just outside the Top 40, at 45 and 48 respectively.

On the Official Albums Chart, his new album Blackstar continues to lead the way and has pushed passed the 100,000 combined sales mark in today's sales flash.

As was reported yesterday, many of his classic albums are set to re-enter the chart, with a further nine records in addition to Blackstar set to enter this week's Top 40.

All final positions on the Official Chart will be revealed here and on BBC Radio 1 on Friday, January 15 between 4pm and 5.45pm.

Heroes is probably his greatest song. Love the way it builds and becomes so emotional towards the end. Cried like a baby when I heard the news of his death. RIP David Bowie.

What about "Changes"? I saw a couple of different Bowie versions on the iTunes charts yesterday, including one in the top 20. No chance that classic can finally make the charts?

Upon hearing that it was Heroes that is about to enter the Top 10 for the first time, the tears came pouring forth. Both of sadness and joy simultaneously.
