Wretch 32 looking set for first Official Number One
17/08/2011
London rapper Wretch 32 is on course for his first Official Number One, according to today’s Official Chart Update.
The single Don’t Go featuring Josh Kumra from Tottenham-born Wretch 32 looks set to top this Sunday’s Official Singles Chart and follows on from his previously highest charting single Unorthodox Ft. Example, which reached Number Two in April 2011. The track is taken from forthcoming second album, Black And White, due for release 22 August.
This is the second week running for a BBC Sound of 2011 act to have their eye on the Official Number One spot.
On track for Number Two this week is Emeli Sandé with new entry Heaven. Having previously featured on singles with the likes of Wiley and Chipmunk, Sandé now moves centre stage with her debut solo single. The Scottish singer/songwriter has also penned tracks for former Official Chart Number One stars Cher Lloyd, Susan Boyle and Tinie Tempah.
Elsewhere in the Official Singles Chart, another high new entry at Number Three for Maroon 5 Ft. Christina Aguilera with Moves Like Jagger, whilst last week’s chart topper Nero’s Promises is at Number Four, and Christina Perri holds on to the fifth slot for a second week running with Jar Of Hearts.
Electronic act Nero go for the double this month, hailing from London and riding high on the momentum of their first Official Number One single last weekend, the dubstep production duo blast straight to the summit of the Official Albums Chart with debut album Welcome Reality. Following a busy summer of live appearances including Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Global Gathering, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Nero embark on a nine date tour of the UK this October.
Adele’s outstanding run in the Official Albums Chart continues, a non-mover again at Number Two with 10 times platinum album, 21, on course to spend its thirtieth week in either first or second position. Jay-Z & Kanye West’s Watch The Throne stays firm at Number Three, with Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black (4), and new release from ex-Busted and Fightstar frontman Charlie Simpson’s solo album Young Pilgrim debuting at Five.
Highest climber in this week’s Official Albums Update Top 10 is Chase and Status with No More Idols.
