DOVES

Doves are a Manchester alt-rock band comprising twin brothers Jez (guitar, vocals) and Andy Williams (drums, vocals), and Jimi Goodwin (bass, vocals), plus touring musician Martin Rebelski.

The band formed in high school as Sub Sub, under which they scored Top 10 hit Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use) in 1993. A fire at their recording studio led to a rebirth as Doves and their debut album Lost Souls (2000) was nominated for the Mercury Prize.

Their follow-up album The Last Broadcast, released in May 2002, gave Doves their first of three UK Number 1 albums while 2005's Some Cities became their second chart topper on the Official Albums Chart.

Doves took a break from recording music in 2010 but returned in 2019 for a series of gigs, leading to a new album titled The Universal Want which also reached Number 1. (Image: Dave Rofe)
