JOHNNY MARR

Johnny Marr (born John Martin Maher) was born in Manchester in 1963. A founding member of The Smiths alongside Morrissey, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce, he left the group in July 1987 before going on to join various other bands. In August 1987, he very briefly became a member of The Pretenders, before going on to release two albums with The The between 1988-1994.

Marr also formed supergroup Electronic with New Order's Bernard Sumner, with the duo releasing the majority of their output between 1989-1998.

As well as joining groups including Modest Mouse and The Cribs, Marr has also gained notoriety as a session musician, working with the likes of Pet Shop Boys, Talking Heads, Hans Zimmer and Kirsty MacColl.
