Duran Duran Paper Gods 194 in just 3 weeks (10, 76, 194 US)!!!! Hype will only often get a good entry position, and this was all the album was ever going to do initially without a hit single. Bands like Duran make all their money from touring as albums & singles don't sell in the quantities they used to. I read somewhere that when Paper Gods made number 10 in the US on it's first week the sales figures were 25,000. If a album selling 25,000 during a week makes the US top ten then album sales are all but dead!!!

Those who are capable of selling are still selling even fossils like Gilmour Keef Don Henley & George Strait. Only losers who are incapable of selling are the ones complaining about albums dead. DD were never ever that big anyway anywhere in the world. Couple of albums & couple of songs doesn't make them ''legendary'', ''iconic'', or ''influential''. it only makes them the most influenced legendary iconic losers that's all LMAO. All that money on bought & paid for PR fluff pieces & the album still tanked.

Duran have released something like 13 albums, some of mixed quality, but even the Stones and Oasis could be accused of that.Plus they've defiantly had more than two recognisable hit singles,it's just mainstream radio is more chart orientated now.The band had main success in America,Italy and Japan, and are varied enough in their influence to have a tribute album by heavy rock acts such as Deftones. I guess there's a snobbery about eighties bands who aren't the Smiths, the Cure or New Oreder, all bands I love but DuranTears For Fears,Simple Minds and INXS are all getting just as recognised for trying to do something innovative in the mainstream.
